In classic Fanthoman train of thought derailment fashion, let me tell you (as if you didn’t know) that the guys who do the Capcom illustrations for the Capcom VS series are simply amazing. I am guessing they are some sort of studio, but the two names I hear more often are Shinkiro and Bengus and their art is truly amazing … I came across some of their work while looking for the cover art for the game cover series and it reminded me that I had never written anything about them, and that’s really unfair as the book they put out about Marvel vs Capcom is one of my favourite artbooks ever.
Drool all you want, it’s your computer after all!!!
There’s not much I can tell you about Carlos Pacheco that hasn’t been said before, originally from Spain he jumped from Marvel UK to the US and has worked on almost all the big titles and even published creator owned stuff. So, keeping that in mind, let’s take a look at his beginnings doing covers and pin-ups for Comics Forum (the Spanish publisher of Marvel comics during the 80’s and 90’s).
Here’s an assortment of his covers for Clasicos Marvel (a series that reprinted classic Marvel arcs). I guess most of you will have no problems to identify which arcs they are for:
Powerman & Iron Fist
And some other covers and pin-ups from other series:
Here is another great artist who’s been getting a bit more (very deserved) attention lately, Tradd Moore. If you want to enjoy more of his hyper-kinetic art, try either of the Luther Strode books (the only one in trade at the moment is The Strange Talent of Luther Strode, Vol. 1), the level of detail is insane!
Seems he’s getting more and more cover work from Marvel these days, so I guess sequential art from Marvel cannot be far behind.
Astonishing X-Men Try-out. Seems like they were looking for someone to cover up for Jason Pearson …
